When the iPhone 15 Pro was released, one of the most talked-about features was the action button. The idea of having a dedicated button to quickly access certain functions like the flashlight, camera, voice notes, or even shortcuts was something that caught my attention. I was excited about the potential of this button to streamline my workflow and make everyday tasks easier and faster.

However, as time went on, I realized that I wasn’t using the action button as much as I thought I would. It wasn’t as convenient as I had anticipated. Then came iOS 18, which introduced the ability to customize the quick actions at the bottom of the lock screen. This was a game-changer for me.

Being able to customize these quick actions with access to shortcuts made a huge difference in how I used my phone. I found that I was using these customized quick actions way more than the action button. The convenience of being able to quickly tap with my thumb on the same side of the phone, rather than having to use my index finger on the opposite side to press and hold the action button, was a game-changer for me.

For someone like me who holds my phone in my right hand, the ability to customize the quick actions at the bottom of the lock screen was much more intuitive and comfortable to use. It made accessing shortcuts and essential functions a breeze and significantly improved my overall user experience.

While the action button was a unique and innovative feature, for me personally, the ability to customize the quick actions at the bottom of the lock screen has been more beneficial and practical. It’s all about finding what works best for you and your individual usage habits. And for me, customizing those quick actions was the way to go.
