With the introduction of the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max also came the introduction of the Action Button. This was something that immediately interested me. I had seen that it was going to be box to do things like switch you from phone silent to off silent, trigger the flashlight, and also the camera. What I was hoping for was to be able to customize the Action Button and to run a shortcut from it. To my delight, that was indeed the case. When I got my hands on the 15 Pro, I spent the first week or so messing with the Action Button assigning different shortcuts to it and seeing what would stick. I have gone through a few iterations, but I think I have landed on one that works well for me.
In a previous post, I talked about how I use the app Twos to help me remember things. Not surprisingly, I have a shortcut that allows me to quickly capture a thing and add it to Today in Twos. Here is what the shortcut looks like:
This shortcut starts with a simple Ask for Input action. I toggled on the “Allow Multiple Lines” just in case I have multiple things I would like to jot down. It is then followed by a Split by New Line action. This will then take the multiple lines of text I entered in the Ask for Input action and split them up into their own individual lines. It will then add each individual line of text as a new thing in Twos. I made sure to toggle off the “Show When Run” on the Twos action so the app does not open after running the shortcut. It all happens in the background. This is nice because I can simply hold down the Action Button, l whether my phone is locked or not, and quickly jot something down and add it to Twos.
This shortcut allows me to either enter text from the keyboard, or I can easily tap the microphone icon in the bottom right-hand corner and dictate my thoughts.
I have had this shortcut mapped to my Action Button for a few months now and have really enjoyed it. If you like, you can download the shortcut here.
